The All Progressives Congress in Oke Ogun Oyo state, on Tuesday launched what is described as "Operation Recapture Oyo" by flushing the ruling People Democratic Party out of government in 2027.
This decision was made at a meeting of APC chieftains from the ten local governments made up of the Oke-Ogun region, held at Igboho, the headquarters of the Orelope Local Government Area of the state.
At a meeting presided by a leader of the party and former deputy governor of the state, Chief Iyiola Oladokun. Chief Oladokun, who spoke on behalf of other party leaders, lamented that “The state has lost its Pace Setter status.”
He condemned the refuse dumps, faeces, blocked drainage, and reoccurrence of robbery and kidnappings, especially in Oke Ogun axis of the state.
The APC leader, therefore, directed “party members to start massive grassroots mobilisation and ensure that every eligible citizen obtained the Permanent Voter’s Card to enable the party defeat PDP in the forthcoming general elections.
“We made mistakes in the last election and which was why we lost a core progressive state to the PDP, and we have learnt from those mistakes, we are now ready to install an oriented progressive government in the state in 2027,” he added.
While appealing to both the party leaders and members to intensify grassroots mobilisation, Chief Oladokun admonished them “to vote en masse for APC so as to flush out the ruling PDP in 2027.”
Meanwhile, the state APC, Peace Advocate Group, consisting of former Speaker of the Oyo state House of Assembly, Akin Onigbinde, former legislators, and public office holders, paid a solidarity visit during the meeting.
The team urged aspirants and their supporters to be peaceful in their political campaigns and mobilisation.
Present at the meeting were former Minister of Communication, Bayo Shitu; former Deputy Governors, Adeyemo Alake, and Rauf Olaniyan; current and former Federal and state legislators; former commissioners; party officers; women and youth leaders, among others.
The meeting passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s administration and reiterated its support for the president’s re-election in 2027.
